CASA Birthdays

Birthdays are a special time for children and their families.

At Santisouk, birthdays are celebrated in the casa in the morning, after the snack. Following the Montessori tradition of celebrating birthdays, the child is asked to walk around a lit candle representing the Sun, each rotation representing one year. It helps the child to realize the sequence of time and the passing of one year. One rotation represents one year. The child walks around the candle the
number of times related to his/her age. Once the current age is reached, the child blows out the candle.

This time is also an opportunity for children to discuss the time that passes and the growth, ability and development from infant to toddler and to preschooler. Well in advance of the birthday, parents are requested to provide the lead teacher with timeline photos (one photo of every year of the child’s life, starting from birth to the age celebrated) so they can be presented to the group during the casa birthday celebration. Parents are welcome to join the celebration. Kindly inform the casa lead teacher if you would like to attend. Please do not bring any cakes, drinks or presents to school.

School Uniform

Children are requested to wear the school uniform from Monday to Friday. The uniform is made of cotton and has been designed so children can easily dress themselves. It includes a white or blue t-shirt with the school logo, and a choice of short pants, long pants or skirt. Uniforms can be purchased at the administration office.

Parents are kindly requested to label uniforms, snack boxes, and shoes with their child’s name.
Children are sent to school with an extra set of school uniform or spare clothes and underwear in their bag in case there is a need to change into a clean set of clothing. It is suggested that children wear proper shoes or sandals to school for comfort, safety and ease of movement when climbing, jumping or running during outdoor play and sport activities. Children may need to use a hat, insect repellent or sun screen regularly during outdoor play. These should be in their bags, or given to the lead teacher.

Hygiene Routine

Learning how to take care of personal hygiene is a skill developed at Santisouk. Children learn to go to the toilet, to wash their hands before and after eating and after using the toilet, and to brush their teeth by themselves after lunch.

Parents are invited to cut their child’s nails frequently and check their child’s head regularly to avoid lice.

School Lunches

The Santisouk team helps monitor the children’s healthy diet following recommended nutrition guidelines for children. Lunch is provided for children on a full-day program from Monday to Thursday via a local caterer. A variety of local and foreign cuisine is offered to the children. No MSG is added to the food. A vegetarian option is available, and special diets can also be accommodated. Seasonal fruits are usually served after lunch as dessert. Occasionally, the children get fruit popsicles, yogurt, or fruit based ice cream. Safe drinking water is made available at all times. Parents should inform the school of any food allergies. Healthy morning and afternoon snacks are provided by the school. If parents would still like to provide a light snack, then it should be healthy and zero waste. Nuts, sweets and candies are not allowed at school. Click the button below for the menu.
